Chapeltown community urges reversal on planned closure of Chapeltown bank branch

Lloyds Bank has confirmed that the Chapeltown Lloyds Bank branch will be closing on 24 July 2023, as part of a wave of bank branch closures continues to hit UK high streets.

Marie Tidball, parliamentary candidate for Penistone and Stocksbridge called the closure plans ‘a disgrace’. She said: “High street bank branches are vital to local communities and small businesses, and now the last bank to serve the local area is planning to close its doors. We’re urging the Head of Lloyd’s Retail Banking to reverse this decision urgently.

Bridget Kelly, Chapeltown Parish Council Candidate, said:

“I have met many local Lloyds Bank customers who are worried about the closure. They rely on the friendly welcome from the staff to help guide them through their finances. Local businesses who still use the bank will be unable to bank their takings, causing inconvenience to them too.

“Too many communities are seeing their banks closing.  We need to ensure that at least one big bank branch is available with facilities to provide services for customers of other banks. At the moment it feels as is this vital service is at risk, excluding those who are isolated and on low incomes.”

“We’re calling for the big banks to work together to ensure that counter services are accessible to our  community. If I’m elected as a Parish Councillor for Chapeltown I hope to continue to campaign on this and other local issues”
