"The parking problem on Smith Street is serious and urgent- let's get it sorted" Bridget Kelly, Chapeltown Campaigner
Bridget Kelly, Chapeltown Campaigner

We know from speaking to residents on Smith Street that there has been a real issue with  cars parked outside their homes, particularly on Saturdays, for a long time. Your local Labour Team has been working to resolve this for some time.

Councillor Craig Gamble Pugh, who sits on the Transport Policy Committee, has been arguing for a policy change so that a formal statutory consultation can take place on a suitable scheme. A resident parking scheme could then be considered at  committee.

Bridget Kelly, local traffic and road safety campaigner said “I have felt frustrated at how slow this process is taking, as I am sure you are.”

“I have therefore set up a petition that I will take to council, demanding that this process happens quicker, lest we go into further delay and lack of action. We know that there have been other petitions and surveys, but I hope that by doing this we can speed up the process.”

Smith Street Parking Petition

We the undersigned call on the Transport Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee, and on Executive Director Kate Martin to authorise a formal statutory consultation on the implementation of a residents' parking scheme for Smith Street.
